We publish one issue annually in late spring. We open for submissions starting November 1, 2022 and close on February 28, 2023, allowing for a print production date in early May.
Levitate aims to share the various complexities we have as people. We want work that takes creative risks, challenges the status quo, and embodies quality and skill in form, voice, and genre. We recognize the way white privilege dominates the editorial institution and we actively seek intersectional writers of color, queer writers, neurodivergent writers, and otherwise marginalized writers. Levitate showcases these perspectives in order to build a thought provoking collection of work.
Please upload one prose piece, up to five pages of poems, or up to five artworks per submission. When submitting to Levitate, include a short bio with your submission. Do not submit multiple times to the same genre. However, simultaneous submissions are accepted across genres if only once, for example one submission for creative nonfiction and one submission for poetry. If you submit in more than one genre, please include that information in your cover letter.
The title of your submission should be the title(s) of your piece(s). Submissions that fail to follow the guidelines will not receive the same careful attention that is given to correctly submitted work.
In this year’s themed dossier, we want to explore a creative, compelling, mysterious, and unorthodox side of writing. We believe that art should be showcased where it has the ability to tell a compelling, inspirational, and haunting story. This year’s theme for the dossier is eldritch, which is defined as strange, ghostly, or sinister. There is beauty in the grotesque. We challenge you to experiment and not shy away from manipulating the genre. Eldritch, on a broader spectrum, can include: metamorphosis, supernatural, otherworldly, fantastical, and post-apocalyptic concepts. Respond to the theme in any way you see fit, but please identify the genre of your submission and follow the guidelines for that genre, though your work will be submitted under this category.
Contributors will receive one free copy of the online issue if located in the United States.
Genres:

Visual Artists are encouraged to submit in any medium, including drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture (any material), ceramics, prints, graphic narratives (one page). Artists can submit up to five pieces. Please submit images as jpeg or tif, 300dpi.
